Ride through the snow and explore Ramsau am Dachstein’s countryside
Horse breeding and traditional equestrian events have long been part of life in Ramsau am Dachsein. The Horse Breeding Association was established in 1925 and now the town is home to about 30 breeds of horse. And the village was named 'Austria's most horse-friendly place' in 2010. Horses are a fundamental part of Ramsau life, with every farmer owning at least one of these fine animals.
On the Ramsau plateau, with its mountain panorama of the Dachstein and the Low Tauern, Ramsau’s horse-riding centers have a gorgeous setting for a hack or ride any time of year.
There are two well-equipped equestrian centers in Ramsau, and the indoor schools Reiterhof Brandstätter and Reitsportzentrum Zechmannhof complete the equestrian offer perfectly. Horseback riding lessons are also available at Unerzhuberhof. For pony or donkey riding, talk to Schlapferhof.
In summer, choose carriage rides or horseback riding, dressage, eventing, showjumping or lessons with ponies.
Come winter, the 40km network of well-groomed trails creates an adventure that takes you through Ramsau's snow-covered countryside – on horseback or by sleigh – from one picturesque farm to the next. A classic tour through the romantic winter scenery takes about 2.5 hours, including a stop at a local rustic inn – a perfect way to enjoy the winter wonderland.
