Take a sustainable holiday in Ramsau am Dachstein
Sustainability is a way of life for the Ramsau Bioniere. Even back in 1999, ten Ramsau businesses joined together to offer a 100 % organic holiday to their guests. From breakfast at the apartment and on the farm to the half-board meals at the four-star hotel, all their food is organic. But they take their commitment further with their energy management, waste management, and, of course, works on the farm following strict ecological criteria and certifications in Ramsau. Nowhere else in Austria are so many organic businesses pulling together to protect their environment.
However, it is not only the Bionere, but there are also many other certified organic farms in Ramsau that have the Quality Seal for Organic Farming. They also serve their own dairy and meet produce to their guests.
Organic Farms in Ramsau am Dachstein
And 80 % of the Ramsau am Dachstein farms run their business organically. That means as much as working the farm just like in the past. No pesticides, no animal feedstuff with GMOs (genetically modified organisms), annual check-ups by the top organisation of the Bioverband and healthy milk and dairy products, meat, and vegetable. Healthy food can already be found at the breakfast table of the organic farms, and up at the region’s many Alpine huts.
Organic Golf Course
The ten-hole golf course at the Kobaldhof is Austria's first organic golf course. No pesticides or other chemicals are used on these greens and fairways.
For golfers, this convincing innovation scores a hole in one, with Olympic champion Felix Gottwald teeing off at the new golf course's inauguration.
Golf enthusiasts can now practice their favourite sport in a chemical-free environment. The organically managed golf facility is a novelty in sports: the three-hectare course is maintained exclusively according to the strict criteria of organic farming, so there are none of the chemical and synthetic fertilisers and pesticides you find on most courses. Outdoor sports should be enjoyed in a natural environment, and that’s what Ramsau offers.
Across the Schladming-Dachstein region, there are hiking buses available. By bus, you get to the Dachstein gondola base station, to White Waters in the Untertal valley, to the Heidi-Village in Preunegg, or to the Reiteralm from where to walk to the Spiegelsee lake.
Green Tourism Office Ramsau am Dachstein
Environmental soundness and sustainability are, naturally, important topics also for the Ramsau tourist office. Some of the sustainability projects have been implemented.
- Information office with low-energy use thanks to solar cells and pellet heating.
- Electric car as company vehicle for employees.
- Exclusively FSC and PEFC certified paper brands for brochures and folders.
