Winter walking has always played an important role for winter guests on the Ramsau high plateau.
An ideal high plateau between 1,000 and 1,300 m above sea-level, gently curving terrain, exposed to the south, with lots of hours of sunshine and a grand mountain panorama.
With the Dachstein to the north and the Schladminger Tauern to the south. |
Winter walking - as far as your shoes will take you
In addition to its expertise in the sport of cross country skiing, Ramsau has always prepared its winter footpaths and has built up a impeccable infrastructure. Wide paths, - 4 m wide - are shaped and prepared from the very start of the winter and are available for horse-drawn sleighs and walkers away from the road.

Winter walking paths and trails
A total of over 70 km.
There are 3 grand circuits, which are circular walks around the whole of the high plateau.
Combined with the 60 cm wide winter trails (prepared by ski doo) making an attractive network of paths, which even lead up to the alpine region at 1,700 m.

The wide footpaths are mostly flat and in open, sunny terrain and you can walk two or three abreast - the only oncoming traffic are the numerous horse-drawn sleighs. The trails are mostly along the egde of the forest, providing protection from falling snow and wind, are also have steeper passages.
Many guest-houses with cosy lounges, rustic huts and sunny terraces entice you to stop for refreshment along the way. The Ramsau public bus service allows additional, less strenuous variations.
