Not without good reason is Dachstein known as "Austria's touring El Dorado". A total of 16 ski tours, traverses and steep descents are waiting to be attacked from the Dachstein Glacier cable car mountain station.

Austria's premier national ski tour also starts from here. The Dachstein crossing to Obertraun is one of the classics and also one of the most popular tours in the Alps and is not too difficult. The great ski crossing takes you on a 25 km route from the Dachstein peaks, via the Simonyhütte and Gjaidalm, down to the Hallstätter See lake, some 2,000 feet below. Countless other ski tours start from the Dachstein.
