Die Quelle deiner Kraft

Excursions and places of interest

It's worth taking a look outside the immediate Ramsau area.

Ramsau Rössing fulling mill

Lodenwalke Ramsau   Styria's oldest commercial business has existed in Ramsau Rössing since 1434

The fulling mill is famous for Schladming loden, the traditional fabric produced here and only sold through the factory outlet. A free guided tour will give you an insight into the multiple production stages. Contact www.lodenwalke.at for opening times.

Alpine museum Austriahütte

Alpinmuseum Austriahütte   Austriahütte Alpine Museum is also worth a visit. The Österreichisches Alpenverein (Austrian Alpine Club) is Styria's highest museum at 1,638 m above sea level.

Styria's first Alpine museum opened in 1989 and a natural history show was added in 1995, introducing the Dachstein area's fauna and flora. Special exhibitions on different topics all year round. For opening times contact: www.austriahuette.at

Dachstein Höhlenwelt

Dachstein Höhlenwelt   The Dachstein Höhlenwelt's three natural show caves make up one of Austria's most important natural monuments.

The main attraction is the giant ice cave. The mountain's extensive Mammuthöhle, or Mammoth Cave, is less icy, but no less interesting, likewise the Koppenbrüllerhöhle in the valley, which still has streams flowing through it.

The fascinating world of salt

Salzwelten   Seemingly endless tunnels take you into the depths,

where fantastically shaped pure rock salt crystals shimmer on the walls in a rainbow of colours. Armed with protective clothing, helmet and lamp, you will go on a unique "prehistoric expedition". The groups penetrate deep inside the mountain and experience the exciting history of 7,000 years of salt mining. The nearest salt mines are located in Hallstatt, Altaussee and Hallein.

Schloss Trautenfels

Schloss Trautenfels   Schloss Trautenfels' imposing structure towers above the valley floor.

It was designed to impress and safeguard the Enns crossing and the Styrian border, which lay a few kilometres to the west, where the salt road and the route through the Ennstal valley intersect. In the 13th century the princely castle passed into the ownership of the Archbishopric of Salzburg.
