Backcountry skiing is becoming more and more popular. Get away from it all and enjoy the scenery and nature in a very intensive way. Ramsau, with its three levels of landscape, is a real paradise for backcountry skiers, where numerous routes await.
High alpine skiing pleasure for backcountry skiers: The Dachstein crossing
Sunshine, snow and exercise at high alpine altitude: from the mountain station of the Dachstein cable cable at 2,700, the tour leads over the wide Dachstein plateau to Obertraun.
A distance of 25 km is covered, mostly in the form of descents, over the unspoilt natural heritage region. The Dachstein crossing takes between 4 and 5 hours incl. refreshment stop.
News: Edelgriess descent reopened.
As of now on you can once again follow the legendary Edegriess descent down to the Ramsau plateau. This descent achieved cult status in the 1980's. To reach the descent a tunnel was dug through the Dachstein mountain, to get to the south side of the Dachstein. From there an ultimate outdoor experience awaits.
Safe control of skis is a must. The level of difficulty varies according to the snow conditions. Therefore, always make enquiries before starting the tour.

Tip: The Edelgriess tour demands, like all other Dachstein tours, a basic level of planning (weather, map, route description, etc.). Therefore a local ski or mountain guide as escort is recommended.
Tip: Ideal touring time is from mid-January to way after Easter.
